Michael L. Supey - FOUNDER AND CREATOR

Unlike so many stories of filmmakers beginning their careers at an early age with family owned Super-8mm cameras, Michael L. Supey came into filmmaking as a 20-year-old transplant to New York City from Northeastern Pennsylvania. Acceptance to the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan meant a new lease on creativity, learning the craft of filmmaking in the backdrop of a booming metropolis.

In his first three years of undergraduate study he completed six short films, shot for very little money while utilizing a variety of formats from video to film.  Two of those films, Mercy and Terminus, tied for first place at the 2006 Electric City Film festival.   Awards also garnered for his short film Mercy include the prestigious National Board of Review Grant given in 2005 for excellence in Student Film in the five boroughs of New York City.

Michael is credited as Producer, Director, Co-writer, and Editor of his first feature film, Abscond Valley, completed upon commencement of his education at SVA in May of 2006.  Experience working as a Production Assistant/ Assistant Producer lead him on the journey of slowly climbing the ranks in television production, and while he found the work stimulating, he also felt himself being taken away from the kind of projects and control he had grown accustomed to in independent filmmaking.

Partnered with Nedra Morgan, who served as lead actress in Abscond Valley, he hopes to take his next feature film, Lights of Ivy to new personal heights in terms of quality and exhibition. Using his independent nature as personal motivation lead Michael to where he is today ultimately focused on the goal of creating a film that will inspire people to not only react to this growing affliction of autism, but also consider the irreversible disappearing act of the middle class of America.
